As well as the regular weekly activities, there’s a variety of other events and attractions which vary from month to month. Events are free (unless otherwise specified) and all are welcome to join in. Outdoor events are weather permitting.

Saturday 3 September

10am – 11am Want to go from Zero to 5K Hero? Free guided training sessions for beginners will take you from walking to running 5k in 9 weeks – every Saturday from 3 September to 29 October. Under 12s need to be accompanied by an adult. Please wear suitable footwear and clothing for outdoor activity. For more information contact acrestreetrunners@gmail.com.

12noon – 6.30pm Hoot Creative Arts, the Huddersfield based Arts and Mental Health charity, present May Contain Nuts III, their 3rd annual festival of the arts. Lots of amazing performances, workshops and activities in or around the bandstand. The programme includes live musical performances by the Rajasthan Heritage Brass Band, Taiko Drumming, Laffmad, The Quims, and Yellow Goose, poetry & spoken word presented by The Write Stuff plus exhibitions, art workshops and more. Monday 5 September

12noon – 12.45pm Free Buggymovers taster session for new mums who want to get back into shape.  All you need is a baby in a buggy and comfortable trainers or walking shoes. 7pm Friends of Greenhead Park committee meeting in the Greenhead Park pavilion.

Wednesday 7 September

12.30pm – 1.30pm This month’s Friends of Greenhead Park History Hour is a talk by local historian David Griffiths entitled A tale of five mansions: Greenhead’s Georgian neighbours. History Hour sessions are held in the Greenhead Park Community Room (in the cafe building by the tennis courts).  Free – no need to book.

Friday 9 September

6pm Explore the fascinating history of Greenhead Park with David Griffiths, author of Secured for the Town: The Story of Huddersfield’s Greenhead Park and Huddersfield’s Best Address: Four centuries of life at Greenhead Hall. This 60 – 90 minute guided walk is free and starts at the Trinity Street gates by the Park Lodge. It has been organised by the Friends of Greenhead Park as part of Heritage Open Days, a national celebration of our heritage. Saturday 10 September

1pm – 3pm Poets and poetry lovers are warmly welcomed to a free Poetry in the Park readaround in the Greenhead Park Pavilion by the bowling greens. Just bring along two or three short poems to read – they can be your own or by someone else. They can be on any topic, but something with September in it would give the session a seasonal theme. Poetry in the Park is organised by the Albert Poets in conjunction with the Friends of Greenhead Park. For more details call John Duffy 01484 534750.

Sunday 11 September

11am to 3pm Huddersfield Society of Model Engineers will be back with a model boating display on the paddling pool this year as part of Heritage Open Days. It’s fun to watch and you can also find out more about HSME and their activities.

Wednesday 14 September

4pm – 5pm Greenhead Park Nature Club – fun environmental activities for children up to 12 (must be accompanied by an adult).  The free activities include bug hunting, pond dipping, outdoor art & craft and much more. 12noon – 1.30pm Greenhead Park Art Club for kids aged 5 to 10 years (must be accompanied by an adult) in the Greenhead Park Community Room (next to the cafe by the tennis courts).
