As well as the regular weekly activities, there’s a variety of other events and attractions which vary from month to month. Events are free (unless otherwise specified) and all are welcome to join in. Outdoor events are weather permitting.
Saturday 25 May – Sunday 2 June
1pm – 8pm (7pm Sunday) Huddersfield Beach – the popular beach-themed fun fair returns to Greenhead Park for the Spring Bank half term holiday. Entrance is by wristband and once inside all rides and the beach are free. For £8.99 you can enjoy as many rides as you want between 1pm & 4pm, 3pm & 6pm or 5pm & 8pm every day – except Sundays when the sessions will be 1pm – 4pm and 4pm – 7pm. Non-riding adults accompanying children can purchase a non-rider wristband for £2.50 which includes access to the beach zone.

7pm Friends of Greenhead Park committee meeting in the Greenhead Park pavilion.
Wednesday 5 June
12.20pm – 1.30pm This month’s Friends of Greenhead Park History Hour takes a look at the story of another major Kirklees park, with an illustrated talk by Gill Young & Jenifer Devlin from the Friends of Crow Nest Park entitled ‘For the pleasure and enjoyment of the people of Dewsbury’. From its purchase for the town back in 1893, Crow Nest Park has been the place for the town’s residents to play and relax in as well as for ceremony and remembrance. History Hour sessions are held in the Greenhead Park Community Room (in the cafe building by the tennis courts). Free – no need to book.
Sunday 9 June
2pm The Friends of Greenhead Park 2019 season of summer music on the bandstand kicks off with a concert by young musicians from Musica Batley Wind Band and Musica Holme Valley Big Band & Intermediate Wind Band. Why not bring a picnic and make an afternoon of it? You can bring your own folding chairs or rugs, and there’ll be some seats available for early birds too. Free – collection in aid of the Friends of Greenhead Park.
Sunday 16 June
12noon & 2pm Enjoy even more music in the great outdoors, with two concerts on the bandstand this Sunday. First up, we are delighted to welcome the Putney & Wimbledon Brass Band all the way from South London, who are visiting the park as part of a tour of Yorkshire. Then at 2pm Musica Colne Valley Big Band will be up on the bandstand to get your feet tapping, followed by the excellent Musica Youth Strings. It’s the perfect occasion to bring a picnic, or grab some refreshments at the nearby cafe or kiosk. As usual there’ll be some seating available or bring your own folding chairs or rugs. Free – collection in aid of the Friends of Greenhead Park.
Wednesday 19 June
12.30pm – 1.30pm A free performance by Curtain Up Players of their play ‘Marriage Lines’ in the Greenhead Park Community Room (in the cafe building by the tennis courts). Curtain Up Players are a well established amateur theatre group for the over 50’s who create their own plays and perform them in community settings. ‘Marriage Lines’ takes a humourous look at the ups and downs of married life – with everyone realising in the end how fortunate they are! This free performance has been organised by the Friends of Greenhead Park. All welcome – no need to book.
Friday 21 June
1pm – 3pm Help S2R create a wildflower area at Greenhead Park for bees and people to enjoy. The Bee Happy Wildflower Workshop and Picnic is a free event but please contact S2R to book a place. All tools and equipment will be provided but please wear suitable clothing and footwear.
Saturday 29 June
2pm Another free concert in this summer’s Friends of Greenhead Park Music on the Bandstand programme, this time featuring Musica Mirfield’s Senior & Intermediate Wind Bands. Come early to get a seat or you are welcome to bring your own folding chairs or rugs. There will be a collection in aid of the Friends of Greenhead Park.
Sunday 30 June
11am Sign up for the Huddersfield Race for Life and help raise vital funds for Cancer Research UK. You can walk, jog or run the 5k course round the park which is suitable for all abilities. The start line will be in the main grassed area in the centre of the park, next to the miniature railway and cafe. Registration is £14.99 (£10 for children aged 6 to 15). Under 6s can join in free with no need to register and there are discounts for families.
