Every week

There are plenty of regular weekly activities in the park, either free or at a small charge, so why not come down and join in! Contact us if you have ideas for other activities you’d like to see.

Mondays

1pm – 2pm Buggymovers session for new mums who want to get back in shape – all you need is a baby in a buggy and comfortable trainers or walking shoes. Cost: £4.50 per mum and buggy (dads and grandparents welcome too!). Meet at the cafe opposite the tennis courts.  Contact Jackie on 07950 870950 for more details. Tuesdays

Petanque1pm Join Huddersfield Petanque Club for a petanque (boules) session on the terrain by the Marsh gates. Newcomers and visitors welcome. Club membership costs £12 a year. You can find more details at Huddersfield Petanque.

Wednesdays

11am Breast Cancer Support walking group meets for a walk in the park every other Wednesday at the Trinity Street entrance near the conservatory. Call Maria on 07821 670438 for dates and more details.

11am – 12noon Buggymovers fitness session – as on Mondays.

1.30pm – 2.30pm Friends of Greenhead Park Drop-in session in the Greenhead Park pavilion by the bowling greens.

2.30pm – 4pm Friends of Greenhead Park weekly gardening session  – weather permitting. (From November to March there is no gardening session on the first Wednesday of the month as we have a committee meeting then.)

Join this friendly group who help park staff with weeding, planting and other seasonal tasks. Meet at the Pavilion by the bowling greens. Tools provided – come dressed for gardening!

Thursdays

11am Join a regular Walking for Health walk in the park starting at the Trinity Street gates near the conservatory.  These free Health Walks are suitable for all ages and abilities, particularly if you have not walked regularly for some time. They are led by a trained walk leader and are a great way to meet new people and enjoy a chat while doing something that can benefit your health. Call Toni on 01484 513213 to find out more.

11am – 12.30pm Gentle yoga class for less able people with ME, other neurological or  similar conditions in the Greenhead Park Community Room (next to the cafe by the tennis courts). Cost £6 – mats and other yoga equipment are provided.

1pm (6pm May to August) Huddersfield Petanque Club session on the terrain by the Marsh gates. Club membership costs £12 a year. You can find more details at Huddersfield Petanque.

Fridays

10am -11.30am Nordic walking – a fun and social activity for walkers of all ages which uses over 90% of the body’s muscles. Meet at the Greenhead Park Community Room (in the cafe building by the tennis courts). Training is provided for people new to Nordic walking, and you can now borrow walking poles free of charge. 11am – 12noon Buggymovers fitness session – as on Mondays.

Saturdays

9am Free weekly 5km timed run, open to everyone who has registered with the organisers, Parkrun. You can find out more and register at parkrun.

1pm – 2pm  Hd Green Peas Children’s Growing Club is taking a break for the winter. The club will be back with weekly sessions aimed at school age children in spring 2019. For more information e-mail hdgreenpeas@gmail.com.

2pm – 3.30pm  The Greenhead Park Tennis for Free scheme offers coaching for all the family on the tennis courts –  sessions are open to anyone of any level and age and equipment is provided. To book, just  register on the Greenhead Park Tennis for Free website. Once you’re registered, you can book yourself and your family members in whenever you want to attend.

Sundays

9am Huddersfield Junior Parkrun, a 2k weekly run especially for 4-14 year olds. Like the amazingly popular Saturday Parkrun, it’s free but you need to register with parkrun. You only need to register once, so juniors who already run on Saturdays don’t need to register again.

Saturdays & Sundays

1.30pm – 4pm The Greenhead Park miniature railway is open for business on weekend afternoons from March to October  – weather and volunteers permitting. Tickets cost: £1.30 a ride, and £3.50 for a family (up to 5 people). Whenever possible, the train runs on Tuesday & Thursday afternoons during the school summer holidays too – and on Bank holidays.
