There are plenty of regular weekly activities in the park, either free or at a small charge, so why not come down and join in! Contact us if you have ideas for other activities you’d like to see.

Mondays

12noon – 1pm Buggymovers session for new mums who want to get back in shape – all you need is a baby in a buggy and comfortable trainers or walking shoes. Cost: £6.50 per mum and buggy (dads and grandparents welcome too!). Meet at the cafe opposite the tennis courts.  Pre-booking is essential – please don’t just turn up! Tuesdays

11am – 12noon  Improve your mental and physical health and quality of life with Yoga Pilates fusion. Free exercise session in the Greenhead Park community room, in the cafe building opposite the tennis courts, organised by Shaping Care in Kirklees – no pre-booking necessary.

12noon – 2pm  Walk in the park and socialise with Shaping Care in Kirklees. Meet at the Greenhead Park community room opposite the tennis courts. Free – no pre-booking necessary.

1pm Join Huddersfield Petanque Club for a petanque (boules) session on the terrain by the Marsh gates. Newcomers and visitors welcome to come along and find out more about the game. The Club will put on taster days for groups by arrangement too.

6pm from April to the end of September Huddersfield Croquet Club session on the lower bowling green.   The Club plays social croquet, enters teams in two Yorkshire Croquet Federation leagues and holds Club tournaments. Wednesdays

11.30am – 12.30pm  Free weekly Health Walk aimed at people with disabilities organised by Huddersfield Town Foundation. Meet outside the top cafe opposite the tennis courts. Call Josh on 07741 671061 for more information.

1pm – 2pm Greenhead Wellbeing Walk organised by S2R. Meet at the entrance of Huddersfield Leisure Centre (HD1 4BP) for a gentle walk to and around Greenhead Park returning to the Leisure Centre. It’s free but booking is essential – call 07933 358800 or email contact@s2r.

12.30pm for 12.45pm start Wednesday Wellness Walk organised by Kirklees Wellness Service. Meet outside the top cafe by the tennis courts for a gentle walk round the park led by Wellness Coaches and Walk Leaders who can support and guide you as you become more active. The free walk starts and finishes at the same point, it is generally flat and will last approx. 30 minutes. Don’t worry if you are not used to walking or haven’t been active for a while, you can go at your own pace and take as many breaks as you need. All you need is a pair of flat comfortable shoes or trainers, a jacket for if it rains and a water bottle. 1pm – 2pm  Friends of Greenhead Park Drop-in session in the Greenhead Park pavilion by the bowling greens.

Planting bulbs 1 resized2pm Friends of Greenhead Park weekly gardening session  – weather permitting.  Join this friendly group who help park staff with weeding, planting and other seasonal tasks. Meet at the Pavilion by the bowling greens. Tools provided but bring your own gloves and come suitably dressed for gardening.

Thursdays

10am  Pickleball session on the tennis courts. This fast growing sport combines elements of badminton, tennis, and table tennis and is played using solid paddles to hit a plastic ball over a net.  It’s suitable for all ages, but is particularly popular with the over 50s. You can get a free introduction to the game from an experienced player on Court 1 – weather permitting – and all the equipment you need will be provided. All welcome – no need to book.

11am – 12noon Join Holy Trinity and Greenhead Walking for Health group for a walk in the park, starting at the Trinity Street gates near the conservatory.  The free walks are led by a trained walk leader and are a great way to meet new people and enjoy a chat while doing something that can benefit your health.  All adults welcome – no need to book. Fridays

10am -11.30am Nordic walking – a fun and social activity for walkers of all ages which uses over 90% of the body’s muscles. Meet at the Greenhead Park Community Room (in the cafe building by the tennis courts). Training is provided for people new to Nordic walking, and you can now borrow walking poles free of charge. Not yet reopened – hope to be back in action in 2022.

Saturdays

1.30pm – 4pm The Greenhead Park miniature railway aims to open on Saturday afternoons from March to October  – weather and volunteers permitting. Fares are £2 a ride, and £5 for a family (up to 5 people). If you would like to help to keep the trains running, please contact Huddersfield Society of Model Engineers.

Sundays

9am Huddersfield Junior Parkrun, a 2k weekly run especially for 4-14 year olds. Like the amazingly popular Saturday Parkrun, it’s free but you need to register with parkrun. You only need to register once, so juniors who already run on Saturdays don’t need to register again.
